Who needs a VISA?

Non-Thai nationals are required to apply for a visa at the Royal Thai Embassy or the Royal Consulate-General in their country of residence or at the designated Thai Embassy/ Consulate-General unless they are eligible for visa exempt schemes or come from a country whose citizens are eligible to obtain Visa on Arrival.

Visa Exemption

For a visit of up to 45 days **Please note that the previous permitted period of stay was 30 days; the extension to 45 days will be in effect until 30 September 2021.**

Passport holders from the following countries/territory are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period not exceeding 45 days on each visit:

For a visit of up to 90 days
Passport holders from the following countries/territory are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 90 days on each visit (‘Bilateral Agreement Arrangements’): Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Korea, Peru.

For a visit of up to 14 days ** Currently suspended **
Passport holders from the following countries/territory are not required to obtain a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes and will be permitted to stay in the Kingdom for a period of not exceeding 14 days on each visit (‘Bilateral Agreement Arrangements’): Cambodia, Myanmar.

How Do I Apply for A Visa?
  • Applicant must provide and submit all required documents personally at the visa counter, Royal Thai Embassy Kathmandu.
  • Submission of visa application along with the requested documents is ONLY between 09.30 hrs – 12:00 hrs from Monday to Friday (except official holidays). Any visa applications submitted at the Embassy after 12:00 hrs will NOT be accepted.

  • The Royal Thai Embassy does not accept any visa application via post or email.
  • All payments for visa processing fees are to be done at Bank of Kathmandu on any branch.
  • Visa processing fee may be changed without prior notice and is non-refundable under any circumstances.
  • Collection of visa is ONLY on Monday to Friday between 14.00-16.00 hrs.
  • The Embassy does not provide a copy service and all copies must be made in A4 paper.
Important Notice
  • The Embassy requires THREE WORKING DAYS to process the visa.
  • The issuance of all types of visa is subject to the discretion of the Royal Thai Embassy.
  • Consular officers reserve the rights to request any additional information or to request for an interview with the applicants as deemed necessary.
  • All payments for visa processing fees are to be done at Bank of Kathmandu on any branch.
  • The fee is non-refundable regardless of the outcome or withdrawal of visa application.
  • For Nigerian nationalities and passport holders, Certificate of Clearance from NDLEA and authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affair of Nigeria and the Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria is required.
  • In the absence of a required document, a letter explaining the unavailability of such document must be provided.
  • The applicant must sign on each page of the copy.
  • Documents in foreign languages must be translated into Thai. If translated into English, it should be notarized by notary organs or the applicant’s diplomatic/ consular mission.
  • Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their type of visa must file an application for an extension at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Government Center B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210, Tel 0-2141-9889 or at local Immigration Bureau. The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration Officer.

List of countries which are declared as Yellow Fever Infected Areas
The Ministry of Public Health has issued regulations that applicants who have travelled from or through the countries which have been declared Yellow Fever Infected Areas must provide an International Health Certificate proving that they have received a Yellow Fever Vaccination.

The International Health Certificate must be submitted together with the visa application form. The traveler will also have to present the said certificate to the Immigration Officer upon arrival at the port on entry into Thailand. As for those nationals of the countries on the list but who have not travelled from/through those countries, such a certificate is not required. However, they should possess concrete evidence showing that their domicile is not in an infected area so as to prevent unnecessary inconvenience (please click here for list of countries.).
